Accessibility at Carter House, Carnton, & Rippa Villa
Handicap parking spaces and curbside drop-off/pick-up locations are available at Carter House, Carnton, and Rippa Villa.
The Visitor Center at Carter House and Rippa Villa, and the Fleming Center at Carnton, are wheelchair accessible. Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs are available free of charge inside the visitor centers.
At Carter House, there are six steps required to access the first floor of the home. The tour also goes into the basement, which is another seven steps. A companion guide is available upon request that includes photographs and information on all areas of the home.
At Carnton, the first floor is wheelchair accessible, but the tour goes to the second floor with a total of 22 steps. A companion guide is available upon request that includes photographs and information on the second floor of the historic house.
At Rippa Villa the first floor is wheelchair accessible. The second floor, like Carnton, is not.
For those with hearing impairments, the site brochure, which is given at all three homes, is the best way to explore the grounds and battlefields. These will include the history of the families, the enslaved people, battle(s), and some of the aftermath of the war. We also offer a printed text of the standard house tour upon request.
Certified service animals or service animals-in-training are welcome inside the homes. Non-certified or therapy pets are not allowed. All pets are welcome on the grounds.
